Newly installed road sign reflectors alert drivers that surface is frozen

Published: Dec 10, 2013
Black ice, a common culprit for winter accidents, forms along roads late at night and in the early morning hours when temperatures hit below freezing.

CLARKSTON, WA -
To get drivers to slow down the Asotin County Public Works Department recently installed these handy reflectors. They turn blue when the area gets below freezing. A few have been installed around the county near steep grades, like this one at the bottom of Critchfield Road.

"There just another indicator for the driving public and let them know that the driving surface temperatures are frozen," said Asotin County Public Works Director, Jim Bridges. "They might encounter ice on the road and to take proper precautions."
